New Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church: Aubrey Agee and Deacon Wilson Moore Jr.

Deacon Moore, what can you share about the New Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church?

The church was started in 1947. We focus our efforts on feeding the community, opportunities for youth, and mentoring boys and girls. Our church is open to meet the community's needs. We are bringing programs to the neighborhood to improve the quality of life.

What is your congregation's spiritual or religious inspiration for practicing earth stewardship?

God gave us this planet to live on and cherish. As a result, we believe it is our spiritual responsibility to care for it and preserve it for future generations.

How do you understand environmental justice?

As much as possible we are to correct the wrongs that have been done to the people and the earth and to correct our mistakes.

What’s one key takeaway that you hope your congregation and/or community gains from your participation in Sacred Spaces?

We hope to begin to understand how to have more sustainable energy options for our church and community.

Michigan IPL is glad for the work being done at New Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church! We are inspired by members of the congregation, such as Deacon Moore, as the church implements sustainability measures and envisions being a beacon of light in their community.
