Masjid Wali Muhammad is the first and the oldest African American Muslim congregation. Their sustainability efforts have been unique, focusing on outreach to the community as well as urban gardening. These efforts, and others taken by the congregation, are highlighted below:

Masjid Wali also participated in the Michigan IPL/ DTE pilot program to infuse houses of worship with energy efficiency upgrades and knowledge.
